An original Audoux And Minnet modernist rope chair, France c.1940s.
This handcrafted Mid Century lounge chair was designed by Adrien Audoux and Frida Minnet (often spelt Minet) and features a turned beech wood frame with a woven abaca rope back and herringbone pattern seat. The duo were part of the Union des Artistes Modernes – a group who consciously rallied against the lavish aesthetic of the current art deco style and were committed to using functional and accessible, often natural, materials, in their furniture. The designers in the group also included Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand. Audoux and Minnet's distinctive style is a fusion of rustic and modern and their pieces have become highly collectable, particularly their now iconic rope and wood seating.
