A set of two antique sugar cane breakers. This striking pedestal ‘crushers’ are hand crafted from hardwood and have a primitive, naive feel. They would have been part of a larger press made to extract the juices from harvested sugar cane. These highly evocative pieces will make great side tables, stools, or display stands; equally they can just be enjoyed as sculptures in their own right and will bring a rustic warmth to any space. Indonesia, c. 1920.
H 44cm / 40cm
Dia 33cm
Very heavy. The smaller one has a couple of the ‘cog’ pieces missing.
Price for the pair.
