A rare pair of shallow pin dishes by Troika Pottery. Clean and minimal in design, with a monochrome colour way these beautiful decorative objects have a timeless simplicity that will elevate and complement any interior space.
Troika Pottery was founded in 1963 by potter Benny Sirota, sculptor Leslie Illsley and architect Jan Thompson, and operated out of the Powell and Wells Pottery in St. Ives, Cornwall. Troika quickly attracted attention and became renowned for two distinctly different ceramic styles; the smooth white and the rough textured, these pieces are wonderful examples of the former.
These shallow dishes are part of the monochrome collection that Troika produced for Heals of London and are now prized collectors items. Constructed from a chunky white ceramic square with a black circular concave dish in the centre, both with makers' mark to the base. One is initialled PB and was made by Penny Black who worked at Troika from the 1960's to 1976, and the other is by Anne Lewis who was at Troika from 1966 to 1972.
